The Navy officer who recently took command of SEAL Team 1 was found dead at his San Diego home on Monday.
The cause of death of Commander Robert "Bobby" Ramirez is unknown as police continue their investigation.
Ramirez was only 47 years old.
Officer Capt. David Abernathy said, "Bobby was an outstanding leader, a devoted husband and father, and a good friend to all of us."
Ramirez, a 1996 Navy recruit, became leadership of SEAL Team 1 last month.
Ramirez was commissioned as an officer in 2004 and promoted to Commander in 2019.
During his 27 years of service, Ramirez was awarded three Combat Action Ribbon.
Ramirez's passing was referred to by Abernathy as "a sad loss to our community."
He is the second SEAL team commander to die in roughly the past year.
