Amber McLaughlin executed Tuesday in Missouri for 2003 rape, murder of woman.
By lethal injection on Tuesday night, a transgender woman who had been found guilty of murder in St. Louis County passed away.
McLaughlin, 49, was the first openly transgender person to be executed in the U.S.
She was pronounced dead at 6:51 p.m., the Missouri Department of Corrections said.
This was the second execution in Missouri in five weeks.
McLaughlin was convicted of murdering and raping her ex-girlfriend Beverly Guenther in 2003.
