Ian Dawson Tyson CM AOE  was a Canadian singer-songwriter.

Tyson was born to British immigrants in Victoria, and grew up in Duncan B.C.

He wrote a significant number of modern folk songs, including “Four Strong Winds" and "Someday Soon".

Tyson was married twice. Both marriages ended in divorce.

Tyson emerged on the scene in the early 1960s, singing folk music with his girlfriend (and later wife), Sylvia Fricker.

Tyson became a Member of the Order of Canada in 1994 and in 2003, he received a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award

Tyson died at his ranch near Longview, Alberta, on December 29, 2022, at the age of 89.

He suffered from several on-going health issue, including, a heart attack and open heart surgery in 2015.
