On Wednesday, eight family members were discovered at a house near Enoch with gunshot wounds.

In the 4900 block of Albert Drive, three adults and five children were discovered dead with gunshot wounds during a welfare check, according to the authorities.

Authorities stated they saw no threat to the public and provided no explanation for the incident.

The incident happened in the town, which has an estimated 8,000 residents and is south of Salt Lake City.

Police added the investigation is still active and more information will be provided at a later time.

Iron County School District officials said in a letter sent to parents that the five children attended schools in the district.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox offered condolences in a tweet on Wednesday night.

"Enoch, a primarily rural and agricultural city in Iron County, Utah, is situated in the northeastern region of Cedar Valley, about seven miles northeast of Cedar City.
